Classic Car Run

Activities

In the early years the club regularly organised autotests, rallies and autocross events with the main event in the 1950s and early 60s being the Hunstanton Rally which ended with an autotest on the seaside promenade! In the past, the club has organised several stage rallies including The Tour of Norfolk in the early 1990s and co-promoted events at Watton and West Raynham airfields.

Today, the Club organises one or two clubnight event(s) per month, ranging from 12 car rallies to gymkhanas. Clubnights are held on the first and occasionally the third Wednesday of each month, but venues vary according to the event.

Also, in late June or early July, the Club runs its annual Classic Car Rally which attracts entrants from all over the region. The event, which has run since the late 1970s, often finishes at such Norfolk or Suffolk stately homes as Sandringham, Holkham, Oxburgh and Ickworth. Other recent events have finished at popular destinations like Creake Abbey and Pensthorpe.

Recently the Club was a major partner in the organisation of the Stanta TARGA rally, held between Christmas and New Year,

Annual Classic Car Run

This event is organised every year by KLDMC and, since the first event back in the late seventies, has attracted support from classic car enthusiasts across the east of England. The event follows a simple but popular format based around three venues – start, lunch halt and finish – and enjoys a reputation for being an informal day’s driving and socialising for owners of all types of classic car. For many years, the event has raised significant sums of money for local charities.

This year our 46th Annual Rally started at the premises of one of our co-sponsors H&C Beart in Stowbridge. Our route took us across Norfolk to a lunch halt at Lenwade before we ended our Run on The Green at Hunstanton, where awards were presented by the Mayor of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk.

Once again, the event was run in aid of the Norfolk Accident Rescue Service, the sixth year that we have supported this voluntary organisation providing emergency support to the area for life-threatening events such as cardiac arrest, road traffic collisions, serious falls and seizures.

Our 2025 event is already being planned so we hope to see you then. Keep an eye on our website for details early in the new year.

Classic Run

Social get together on a Friday evening, a gentle run round North Norfolk lanes, finishing at a pub for a natter.

12 Car

Our 12 car rallies run on a monthly basis, usually on the first Wednesday of any month between September and April.

12 car rallies are ideal for starting out in any kind of rallying – they are limited to 12 cars and just about any car can take part. You do not need special equipment to take part in road events, just the relevant map, a map magnifying glass and a map light.

If you want to be a driver you will need to have a full driving licence and be at least 17 years of age but you can compete as a navigator from as young as 12.

All you need is a taxed and insured road car with a valid MOT certificate.

Our recommendation is that you have a look on the Events page for the next 12 car and come along to marshal. Just give the event organiser a call or contact a Committee member. That way you will get to meet a few people and see what it’s all about before you venture out on an event!

Gymkhana

Grass Gymkhanas are held on private grass fields with the land owner’s permission between May and August. There will be a variety of cars competing so do not think your car won’t be suitable

Approximately 10 cones are positioned on each test, and you are given a test diagram to follow. The test starts when the can is removed from the first cone and time stops when can is positioned back on the cone at the finish.

Tests usually take approximately 30 seconds to complete.

There will also be some un-timed driving skill tests thrown in so it is not all based on who is the fastest driver in the best car.

Why not check out the Events page and come along.
